Abstract

1276805 Ink-ribbon mechanisms BURROUGHS CORP 19 April 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 20263/71 Heading B6F An automatic ink-ribbon reversing mechanism has a cross-threaded worm 28 and a co-operating pivotal translator 34 for completing the translation of a unidirectionally driven ribbon drive shaft 20 between its two spool driving positions. The exhaustion of the ribbon prevents rotation of worm wheels 12 and 14 so that the drive to shaft 20 causes it to move axially and disengage the operative worm 22 or 24 from the appropriate worm wheel 12 or 14. Translation is thereafter completed by the cross-threaded worm 28. Detent 36 retains shaft 20 in one or other of its positions. The free-running spool is retarded to tension the ribbon with a compression ring (46, Fig. 3).
