' S. STUCKY VALVE Filed Aug. 25, 1923 I? 1' fig ,2,

Patented Nov. 4 19242.
STEPHEN STUCKY, OE @XFO'BD, ALABAMA.
VALVE.
Application filled August 25, 1923. Serial No. 659376.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN STUGKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at 92;- ford, in the county of Qalhoun and State of Alabama, have invented neW and useful Improvements in Valves, o't Which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in valves and the like and has especial relation to means for com-eniently operating the same.
An object of the invention is to provide manually operated means whereby a valve may be quickly and easily opened and permitted to automatically close after the operating means is released.
With the above and otner objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation ill ustratine a por tion of a valve equipped with the operating means constituting the present invention, the parts being in normal position.
Figure 2 is a view similar LO Figure 1. with the valve casing partly broken away and the operating means in the position assumed When the valve is open.
Referring in detail to the c raivings Wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates a portion of a valve casing Within which may be arranged a valve mechanism of any suitable type, but which includes a longitudinally movable valve stem 11. This stem extends through the valve casing and is provided With a head 12.
Extending from and rigid with the end of the valve casing 10 is an arm 13, While pivotally secured to this arm adjacent the valve casing as shown at 14, is one end of one arm of a substantially L-shapeol lever 15, the other arm of Which is spaced from and substantially parallel to the arm 13, as in dicated at 16. The head 12 of the valve stem is connected With the L-shaped lever 15 by means of a pin 17, the said pin passing through a slot 18 provided in the L-shaped lever.
The arm 16 is designed to be operated against the action of a spring and this spring may be interposed between the arms 13 and 16, or a spring 19 Which surrounds the stem 11 and acts to hold the valve normally seated, may be utilized for this purpose. Thus, when it is desired to open the valve, the arm 16 of the L-shaped lever is moved toward the arm 13 to the position shown in Figure 2, so that the valve stem Will be moved longitudinally to open the valve. As soon as the arm 16 is released, the valve Will be closed under the action of the spring 19 and the parts Will assume their normal position.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention What is claimed is In combination With a valve having a longitudinally movable stem, of an arm rigid with the valve casing, an L-shaped lever having one end of one of its arms pivotally secured to the rigid arm adjacent the casing and its other arm spaced from and substantially parallel With the rigid arm and means connecting the valve stem and the first mentioned arm of the L-shaped lever.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
STEPHEN STUCKY.
