Abstract
513,425. Valve closure members. GLOVER & CO., Ltd., G., and SUTHERLAND, R. M. April 5, 1938, No. 10384. [Class 135] [Also in Group XVIII] A valve mechanism for prepayment gas meters and other like apparatus comprises a main disc a having a leather facing b to co-operate with a fixed seating c on the gas supply passage, the disc a having a hollow boss d through which an operating stem e connected to an actuating arm n passes. The stem e has at one end a shoulder f provided with a facing g to co-operate with a supplementary seating h on the adjacent end of the boss d. A milled nut i is adjustably mounted on the screwed inner end of the stem e and secured by a lock nut m. The nut i is held against the adjacent end of the boss d by a spring j surrounding the stem. Gas can pass through slots k in that end of the boss and through the boss, when the supplementary closure f, g is open. When the main closure is moved to its seating, a restricted flow of gas is allowed through the supplementary valve and serves as a warning that the supply is about to be cut off. If further prepayment be not made, the spring j will be compressed and the valve f, g moved on to its seating h completely shutting off the supply.
