Abstract
447,837. Valves. REINER, O., 10, Bruckenstrasse, Rheinhausen, Niederrhein, Germany. Nov. 26, 1934, Nos. 34003 and 34004. Convention dates, Nov. 25, 1933 and Oct. 30, 1934. [Class 135] [See also Group XII] Pipes 8, 9, and 10 supplying combustible gases of different grades to a furnace 5 are provided with shut-off valves, those 12, 13 of the pipes 8, 9 being closed before the actuation of the reversing valve 1 of the furnace and the pipe 10 being shut off at the time of reversal. The pipe 10 is provided with two pivoted valves 20, 21 and in the normal position, Fig. 3, the valve 21 is fully open and the valve 20 only half open. When the valves 12 and 13 are closed, the valve 20 is fully opened so as to keep the total gas supply approximately constant until reversal. On the spindle 23 of the valve 21 and outside the pipe 10 is rigidly mounted a forked lever 28. The spindle 22 of the valve 20 carries the rigidly mounted arm 24 of a counterweight 25 and a loosely mounted crank arm 26 having a pin 27. In the normal position an abutment 32 also carried by the spindle of the valve 20 rests against the arm 26 and so holds the valve half open against the action of the counterweight. When the valves 12 and 13 are closed the arm 26 is moved in the direction of the arrow 34 so that the valve 20 is allowed to turn into the fully open position in which the arm 24 rests on a stop 35. In this position the pin 27 has entered between the arms of the lever 28. At the time of reversal the arm 26 is given a further movement in the same direction and rotates the lever to close the valve 21, as shown in Fig. 5.
