Abstract
815,391. Valves. ZIMMERMANN & JANSEN G.m.b.H. Sept. 5, 1956 [May 8,1956], No. 27128/56. Class 135. A valve member 4 having a part-spherical closure surface coacting with a cooled seat 3 and actuated by an arm 15 mounted on a spindle 10 has through passages 7 under the control of a ported slide-valve 6 whereby the pressures on either side of the valve member may be equalized to facilitate opening. The valve 6 is connected by a link 13 to an arm 12 fixed to the spindle 10 whilst the arm 15 is loosely mounted on the spindle but has abutments which are engaged by abutments on the arm 12 whereby the valve member 4 is opened by continued - rotation of the spindle after the opening of the slide valve and the taking up of lost motion 18 between the abutments. The valve member 4 is suspended from the arm 15 at a point coinciding with the centre of curvature of its closure surface. The valve is suitable for controlling flue gases in blast furnaces.
