Abstract

781,183. Valves. TEDDINGTON AIRCRAFT CONTROLS, Ltd July 15, 1955 [July 20, 1954], No. 21149/54. Class 135. A butterfly valve for controlling the flow of gases comprises a tubular aluminium alloy valve body 1 housing a thin deformable stainless steel sleeve 8 secured in the body by a supporting sleeve 12. The sleeve 8 is a loose fit in both the body and the sleeve 12 but has an interference fit with the butterfly disc 5 so that on moving the disc into its closed position in the body the sleeve is deformed to provide a seal. The sleeve 8 is mounted on the down-stream side of the disc so that gas pressure acts on the outside of the sleeve 8 to assist in the sealing of the valve. In an alternative construction the sleeve 12 is dispensed with, the outer end of the sleeve 8 then being made thicker and screwed into the body.
