Abstract

552,621. Valves. KIMMINS, E. J. Jan. 22. 1942, No. 941. [Class 135] A combined stop and safety cut-off valve has the cut-off valve opened by closing the stop valve. In the form shown in the Figure the stop valve comprises a lift valve member 11 actuated by a manually actuated screwed spindle 19 to cooperate with a seat formed on the upper side of an apertured partition 12. The cut-off valve which co-operates with a seat on the underside of the partition comprises a flanged head 22 on a plunger 21 slidably mounted in a socket 23. A spring 25 arranged either outside the plunger, as shown, or inside urges the valve towards its closed position. When the stop valve is closed projections 24 on one or both valves engage to move the valve from its seat. If fluid under pressure is present in the inlet conduit 16, it then acts on the plunger to move the valve 22 to its fully open position. If the pressure should fail while both valves are open the spring moves to its seat and on restoration of pressure the pressure acts to press it firmly against its seat until such time as the stop valve is closed.
