Abstract
222,667. Pilkington, L. G., and Soden, E. E. Dec. 4, 1923. Valves closing after predetermined interval of flow.-A self-closing valve is opened by a handoperated piston which transmits pressure through liquid in a cylinder to the valve member, which is provided with a slow-leakage valve to allow pressure fluid in the cylinder to escape and so allow the main valve to close. The cylinder 3 is normally pressed by fluid pressure and by a spring 4 against a rubber ring 5 to close the outlet 18. The piston 6 also rests normally against the ring 5, but when pressed inwards the seating 3 is lifted off the seating 5 due to the closing of the check valve 13 and trapping of liquid within the cylinder. Liquid gradually leaks through the openings 14, 17 so that the cylinder 3 slowly returns to its seating 5 even if the handle 9 is held in the " open '' position. On releasing the handle, the piston returns to the position shown.
