Abstract

303,770. Mason, H. L. Sept. 7, 1927. Divided on 280,864, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 21, 1927]. Double-beat lift valves; seats; repairs, facilitating.- A valve for steam and other fluids and liquids comprises an annular seating member in the form of a ring or washer 24, Fig. 6, supported and rendered fluid-tight by an adjustable yielding packing 32 and forming the end of the cage-like packing unit 25, 32, 33 and abutting on the diaphragm of the valve; the opening in the diaphragm is slightly enlarged so as to form a shoulder against which the seating ring or washer 24 abuts, the annular seating member and packing being so disposed within a gland that when the gland member 27 is loosened and removed pressure on the seating member by movement of the main valve member 35 beyond the normal closing position is capable of partially or wholly displacing the seating member and its supporting packing so as to facilitate their' removal. An auxiliary valve surface 37 co-axially disposed in conjunction with the main valve 35 is adapted to close upon an. auxiliary seat on the casing diaphragm so as to prevent the passage of fluid during the removal and replacement of the principal seating and packing unit. Fig. 5 shows the same principle applied to a check or non-return valve 36, the valve member having a screwed aperture for the inserting of a rod to effect the partial removal of the seating and packing when the lower gland member 27 is removed.
