Arrangements; steam regenerative accumulators.-In installations with independently fired boilers of different pressures and overflow valves permitting excess steam from the high pressure boilers to pass to the low pressure main, the low pressure boilers which work with pressure fluctuations are provided with shower, spray or other means for intimately mixing the excess steam with the water either in the steam or water spaces of the boilers so that an increase of pressure occurs only gradually due to condensation in the steam receiving boilers. An installation A working at e.g. 20 atmospheres is connected by an overflow valve V to an installation B working at e.g. 8 to 4 atmospheres. Valves R1, R2 are located in the pipes leading respectively from the steam and to the water spaces of the low pressure boilers. To prevent blowing off of further steam when the maximum pressure has been reached, an accumulator S may be included in the system. In the plant shown in Fig. 2, a medium pressure boiler B and a low pressure boiler C are provided, an overflow valve V2 opening when the maximum pressure in boiler B has been reached. Reducing valves R3 may be connected in parallel with the overflow valves and set so as to open when the pressure in the lower pressure main has fallen to the minimum. Power consumers may replace or be combined with the overflow valves. Boiler feed may be drawn from the accumulator, and higher pressure boilers fed from low pressure boilers. To ensure in any case an absorption of excess steam. boilers B, C, may be worked at rather lower than the predetermined pressures.
