Abstract

235,249. Hawthorn, Leslie, & Co., Ltd., R. & W., and Tweddle, C. J. Jan. 10, 1924. Power-generating systems.-In apparatus of the kind described in Specification 171,967, a make-up boiler is adapted to be connected at will to either the high- or low-pressure side of the closed circuit. The boiler g is fed from the lowpressure reservoir f by a pump i and is connected to either the low-pressure or high-pressure reservoir through a valve j. An auxiliary feed tank k is provided. The steam from the compressor passes to a perforated pipe in tank a, which preferably contains water, to which pipe the boiler g may also be connected. A reducing- valve d is inserted in the engine supply pipe 3. The plant is described as applied to a locomotive and tender, to a six-coupled locomotive, and to a double-ended locomotive, having two fourcoupled bogies. The bogies may both have highpressure cylinders or high-pressure cylinders on one and low-pressure on the other, or each may have a compound unit.
