Abstract

Engines working on special systems or cycles. -In locomotive and like transportable steamengine plants using boilers at two or more pressures the steam for operating the auxiliaries is taken from the high-pressure boiler and the exhaust pipes from the auxiliary engines are connected. to the low-pressure boiler and also to a low-pressure stage of the main engine, and are provided with oil separators which can be brought into operation or cut out in such a way that the auxiliary exhaust passes direct to the main engine or through an oil separator to the low-pressure boiler. The feed pumps f, f<1> of the high- and low-pressure boilers b, e respectively are supplied from the boiler b and the exhaust therefrom passes to the engine through a pipe m or through a separator o and a pipe f to boiler e, the connection being controlled by a threeway valve o<1>. Similarly a valve o<4> controls the exhaust of the air pumps g.
