Abstract

395,107. Power-generating systems. AKTIEBOLAGET GÍTAVERKEN, Gothenburg, Sweden. March 30, 1932, No. 9163. Convention date, Nov. 28, 1931. [Class 122 (iii).] A multipleexpansion marine power plant is adapted to supply steam at reduced pressure to the auxiliary machines and steering-engine. All or part of the auxiliary machines are driven by intermediate steam taken from the engine and increased in pressure and/or superheated bv a compresser. The auxiliary machines 9, and steering-engine 10 are fed from an auxiliary main 8 supplied with line steam through a reducing-valve 11 and/or with main-engine receiver steam through a non- return cut-off valve 16 and a pipe 15 supplied from a turbine-driven compresser 17 operated by the low-pressure exhaust through a pipe 19 which turbine circulates steam through pipes 25 and a steam collector 27. The exhaust from the auxiliaries pass to a feedwater heater 13. The valve 11 is adjusted to supply steam at a pressure below that in the conduits 25, 15. The receiver 5 is divided into two parts, one takes the exhaust from cylinder 2 and supplies the compresser, the other receives the discharge through a control valve 26 and supplies cylinder 3. The pipe 15 supplying the auxiliaries is connected to the collector 27. When the main engine stops or when the receiver pressure falls, the auxiliaries are driven by reduced boiler steam. Apparatus and arrangements for heating purposes may be connected to the pipes 15, 8. Some auxiliaries may be connected to one receiver, and the others to another. Some auxiliaries mav be driven solely by reduced boiler steam. The compresser 17 may be driven by a separate source of power, and may also be connected into either one of the conduits 15 and 8 to compress and reheat the steam for all or some of the auxiliaries. An additional compresser may be arranged in either conduits 15, 8. The compresser may effect rise of pressure or superheating, or throttle resistances may be placed in the compresser pressure conduit. Drying or superheating may be effected by a fluidgas heater.
