636,604. Arrangements of steam boilers; feedwater supply systems. NORDLUND, K. F. April 8, 1947, No. 9272. Convention date, April 6, 1946. [Class 123(ii)] A steam generating installation comprises two or more individually-fired boilers 2, 3 associated with a common steam-and-water drum or steam separator 1 whch has downcomer 6 leading to the inlet headers 9, 14 of the respective boilers, the outer headers 10, 15 of the latter communicating with the steam space of the drum 1 through preliminary steam separators 12, 16 and pipes 18, 19. The invention is stated to be particularly applicable to waste heat boilers in which the inlet and outlet headers are connected by parallel tube coils projecting into a flue. The preliminary separator 12, Fig. 3, is preferably a T-shaped steel casting having branches for connection to the pipe 18, a pipe 11 leading from the outlet header 10, and a return water pipe 13 to the inlet header 9, and it is formed with a downwardlyprojecting edge 26 as shown. The separator 16 is slightly modified and is provided with four branches for connection to the headers 14, 15, the pipe 19, and also to the downcomer 6 through a pipe 7. Feedwater is supplied to the drum 1 by an inlet 4, or alternatively, a supply pipe 20 is taken to a junction 21 in the said downcomer.
