Abstract

6 0 1,614. Steam superheaters. SOC. ANON. J. COCKERILL. July 16, 1945, No. 18201. Convention date, Feb. 23. [Class 123(iii)] On starting up, boiler water is circulated through the superheater 4 being taken from one, 1, of the upper boiler drums through pipes 9, 13 to the superheater inlet 5 and then returned to the drum, 1, from which it was taken or to a drum at the same level, through piping 14. Valves isolate the pipe system 9, 13, 14 when the superheater is in normal operation. In a boiler having two superheaters the circulating water flows in a direction opposite to the normal steam flow. Before putting the superheater to normal use, it may be flushed out by pumping distilled water from the boiler feed pipe 18. In each case the water, either cooling or flushing, is returned to the boiler thus avoiding waste.
