651,962. Promoting water circulation &c. in steam boilers &c. WAESELYNCK, R. F. M. and SOC. RATEAU. December 5, 1945, No. 32939. Convention date, April 13, 1943. [Class 123(ii)] The flow of water through a downcomer 2, Fig. 1, depending from the steam-andwater drum 1 of a boiler, is enhanced by providing the downcomer with an inlet pipe or chamber 5 which has a flared opening S1, located near the bottom of the drum 1 remote from the outlets of the steamgenerating tubes t, and is maintained cool by, for example, feedwater injected through a tube a projecting into the upper part thereof. In a modification, Fig. 3, the inlet S1 of the downcomer is isolated from the steam in the drum 1 by a partition E, the latter defining a chamber c to which the whole or part of the feedwater is supplied by a pipe A. The invention is stated' to be applicable generally to the withdrawal of boiling liquids from reservoirs.
