Abstract
562,063. Steam superheaters. McINTOSH, C. Dec. 11, 1942, No. 17675. [Class 123 (iii)] In a superheater having elements each consisting of a,number of steam tubes 6 secured by welds 14 in recesses in the walls of a watertube 2 as described in Specifications 478,119 and 423,095, the superheat is controlled by supplying water continuously to the tube 2 under the control of a valve 76 governed by a thermostat in the steam outlet header 58, the water flowing in the same direction as the steam. The water is supplied by a pump 46 drawing from the lower drum 64 of the boiler in which the superheater is installed, and the upper end of the tube discharges into an upper drum 55 through a pipe 54. At starting, the flow of water is controlled by a hand valve 100 in a byepass 70 between the pump and the water inlet header 45. The water flow is also controlled by a valve 98 in a byepass 72 and governed by a thermostat in the water outlet header 53. The passage through the water tube 2 may be of annular cross-section.
