656,551. Steam, &c. attemperators. BABCO.CK & WILCOX, Ltd. Aug. 13, 1947, No. 22500. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1946. [Class 123(iii)] [Also in Group XII] A steam &c. attemperator disposed, for example between the primary and secondary superheaters 12, 42 of a steam boiler 10, comprises a chamber 16 which has end steam inlet. and outlet connectors 14, 41 and a lateral water nozzle connector 28 and is provided with a two-part liner, namely an inlet section 18 and a Venturi section 20, the section 20 also having a lateral connector 26 to mate with the connector 28 and receive a water nozzle 30. The nozzle 30 is spaced in advance of the throat of the section 20 a distance less than the diameter of the inlet of said section, and water may be supplied to the inlet pipe 32 thereof from the boiler feed water line 50, between the feed pump 52 and economizer 54. through an automatic valve 58, controlled by a relay 62 subjected to the steam flow and temperature in the main steam outlet pipe 44, or a manually-operated valve 72 in a byepass 70. The inlet and outlet ends of the two sections 18, 20 respectively are centred within the chamber-16 by a weldedon ring 24 and spaced lugs 22, and the inlet end of the section 20 is supported within the outlet end of the section 18 by four radial plates 23 welded to the former section and abutting against a ring 21 fixed within the end of the latter. Holes 19 are provided in the section 18 to permit flow of superheated steam between the chamber 16 and its liner. The spray nozzle 30 comprises a, circular chamber which is disposed tangentially to its inlet pipe 32 and is pro vided with a central conical outlet 76, in alignment with the axis of the liner 18, 20.
