Abstract
617,463. Steam superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and SPARKS, C. H. Oct. 2, 1946, No. 29364. [Class 123(iii)] The temperature of superheated steam, &c., from a steam boiler, &c., is regulated by interposing a condenser 6 between the outlet 4 of the boiler steam-and-water drum 1 and the steam pipe 23 leading to the superheater 24, the resultant condensate being discharged back into the steam through a drain 25 and a pipe 26 leading to a Venturi section 22 in said pipe 23. The condenser is preferably cooled by U-shaped tubes 11 the respective ends of which communicate with water inlet and outlet headers 13, 15 connected by pipes 16, 18 to the inlet and outlet headers of the normally-fitted economizer, not shown, and the flow of water therethrough is preferably regulated automatically by control of a valve 20 in the pipe 18 in dependence on means responsive to the temperature at the superheater outlet. A second or emergency drain 31 is provided on the condenser for discharging excess condensate to the drum 1. Specification 249,052, [Class 123(iii)], is referred to.
