Abstract

593,371. Steam superheaters. HOULET, F. March 10, 1945, No. 6181. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1941. [Class 123 (iii)] In a locomotive &c. steam boiler associated with a double-expansion engine, one-half of the smoke tubes 19 are each provided internally with a high-pressure, preferably annular, superheating element 20 having inlet and outlet tubes 23, 25 leading from and to saturated and superheated steam manifolds 24, 26 respectively and, in the part thereof which locates only the tubes 23, 25, also a low-pressure resuperheater element constituted by a simple loop 32, 33 connected to inlet and outlet manifolds 29, 31. The other half of the tubes, such as 22, are fitted with lowpressure resuperheating elements 27, similar to the high-pressure elements 20, having inlet and outlet tubes 28, 30 leading from and to the manifolds 29, 31, as well as simple loop elements 34, 35. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a modification, not shown, in which the simple loop elements are omitted. Some of the smoke tubes locate annular superheating elements and the others resuperheating elements of similar form, and a part only of the high-pressure cylinder exhaust is resuperheated, this resuperheated steam being mixed with the non-resuperheated steam before admittance to the low-pressure cylinder. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
