Abstract

649,762. Water-tube steam boilers. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd., SAMPSON, W., and CULVER, L. J. Feb. 15, 1946, No. 4819. [Class 123(ii)] A steam boiler comprises an upper steam and water drum 1 and a lower water drum 2 joined by two banks 3, 4 of substantially vertical water-tubes, the two banks being divided by a wall 5 which defines, on one side, a combustion chamber 4a, fitted with an oil &c. burner 11 and provided with a gas outlet, and, on the other side, a chamber 3a for the passage of hot waste gases from an inlet at one end to an outlet 9 at the other end. The two tube banks, which preferably open into separate compart- - ments 13, 14 of the water drum 2, have associated downcomers 15, 16 respectively, and the wall 5 is provided with a dampercontrolled opening 10. Specification 561,069 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
