Abstract

538,008. Water tube steam boilers. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. June 29, 1940, No. 11047. Convention date, July 29, 1939. [Class 123 (ii)] A boiler with a main bank of water tubes 14 connecting upper and lower drums 12, 13 has, in the same setting, a super-heater furnace 17 lined with super-heating tubes 34 and a boiler furnace 16 lined with water tubes 15. The furnaces are separated by a partition 18 terminating short of the front or rear wall of the setting to provide a passage for the now of gases from the super-heater furnace to the boiler furnace. The gases from the two furnaces flow through a water-tube slag screen 41 to a passage 42 between partitions 19, 20 and then enter the rear end of the main tube bank, through which they pass to a flue 43 at the front of the setting. The super-heating tubes lining the partition 18 may be replaced by water-tubes. Specifications 484,529 and 523,463 are referred to.
