Abstract
486,948. Composite steam boilers. BENNIS COMBUSTION, Ltd., and BENNIS, A. W. Nov. 6, 1936, No. 30213. [Class 123 (ii)] A multitubular boiler A is set over a combustion chamber having water-tube side walls each composed of a row of vertical tubes G connected to upper and lower headers parallel to the boiler axis, the upper headers H being connected to the front end of the boiler at a point near the water level by short pipes H<I> and the lower headers J being connected by pipes J<1> to a rear transverse header K communicating through a central pipe K<1> with the lowest point at the rear end of the boiler. Or steam and water may be delivered from the walls, at points distributed along the length of the boiler. Rear wall tubes L extend between header K and a header L<1> connected to the front end of the boiler by pipes L<2>, and front wall tubes N<1> extend between headers P, O, connected respectively with the boiler and rear header K. The boiler fire-tubes may be arranged in two groups B, C, the furnace gases passing forwardly through group C and returning via a front smoke-box D and group B to a rear smoke-box E. In addition the fire-tubes may be divided vertically into the sections opening into separate parts of smoke-box D. Refractory walls M<2> screen off a narrow central space in which downtake K<1> is disposed and through which air for combustion is passed to conduits S<2> leading to the ashpit. A feedwater heater or superheater may be disposed at the rear end of the combustion chamber between tubes L and the rear wall F<l>. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifccation 14774/91, [Class 123].
