Abstract

338,627. Stirling Boiler Co., Ltd., (Babcock & Wilcox Co.). Sept. 2, 1929. Water-tube boilers.-In a boiler of the Stirling type, furnace-arch tubes 20 open into upper and lower headers 21, 19 connected to an upper drum 2 of the boiler by upriser tubes 24 and downcomers 18 respectively, and the tubes 30 at the sides of the furnace open into upper and lower headers 31, 29 connected respectively to the drum 2 by upriser tubes 32 and to the header 19 and mud drum 5 by tubes 26, 33. A header 10 behind a wall 11 at the rear of the furnace, is connected to the boiler drum 2 by a row of tubes 13 which extend forwardly to form a rear arch 14 and then upwardly along the front of the front bank of boiler tubes. Tiles on the arch tubes 14 and a wall 16 prevent the furnace gases from passing rearwardly below the boiler mud drum. The header 10 is connected to the side headers 29 by pipes 26<1>. Normally, the tubes 30 and 13 are supplied with water from the drum 2 through the downcomers 18 and header 19. If the water level falls below the upper ends of the downthe tubes are supplied with water from the mud drum through the tubes 33.
