Water-tube boilers.-A boiler comprises a set of tubes 34, Fig. 1, connected to a steam drum 31 and a water drum 33 which is supported upon the rear wall 18 of a furnace chamber 36, and a set of tubes 27 connected to headers and arranged behind the furnace chamber, the lowest header being connected to the feed supply and the uppermost header being connected to the steam drum. The horizontal headers 19 form a wall of a vertical flue down which the gases pass over the U-tubes 27 connected by the headers in series. The U- tubes increase in length towards the top of the flue. The furnace is fed with liquid fuel through burners 16. The set of tubes 41, Fig. 4, connected to the water drum or header 40 supported on the rear wall 12 are arranged in parallel vertical rows, and steam is led off from the upper drum 31a to a superheater 44 placed between the tubes 41 and the tubes A<1> in the vertical flue. In a modification, the horizontal U-tubes A<1> are replaced by straight vertical tubes connected to upper and lower headers. The lower ends of the vertical tubes are fitted with ferrules to restrict and equalize the flow of water through the tubes. In another modification, the tubes 34, Fig. 1, are replaced by a bank of tubes extending across the top of the combustion chamber and connected to a steam drum at the front of the chamber.
