Abstract

150,614. Fairweather, H. G. C., (Babcock & Wilcox Co.). Jan. 28, 1920. Water-tube boilers.-The tubes of a feed heater in a Stirling type boiler are connected at their upper ends to one of the upper drums of the boiler and at their lower ends to a number of cross-boxes arranged in the rear wall of the boiler setting. Feed-water fed into superposed crossboxes 14 passes upwards through feed-heating tubes 13 into the rear upper drum 2, from which it passes downwards through tubes 5 to the lower drum 8. A baffle 18 directs the gases upwards along the tubes 5 and downwards along and across the rearwardly bent lower ends of the feed-heating tubes. A hinged damper 19 may be fitted at the lower end of the baffle 18 to allow the gases to pass directly to the outlet flue. The water may flow through the boxes either in series cr in parallel courses.
