Water-tube boilers.-A water-tube boiler having horizontally-inclined tubes has only two or three rows of tubes, which are directly subjected, preferably over their whole length, to the radiant heat of the furnace, and which are heated only to a small extent by convection. Three rows of Field tubes 2 connected to divided headers 4 are arranged horizontally above a, furnace 15, no baffles being fitted in the combustion chamber, and the furnace having a small arch 16. The gases pass downwards through a vertical flue b containing a superheater 5, a feed-heater 8, and an air-heater 11. The Field-tube elements shown may be replaced by tubes connected to front and back headers or chambers, or b- Belleville elements. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a boiler having an upper longitudinal drum connected by two sets of tubes, each set having only two or three rows of tubes, to two lower drums. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
