Abstract

373,844. Water-tube steam boilers. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., Bush House, Aldwych, London.-(Superheater Co. ; 60, East 42nd Street, New York, U.S.A.) July 23, 1931, No. 21105. [Class 123 (ii).] In water-tube boilers comprising a bank of tubes 10 connected to vertical headers 12, 14 which are in turn connected to one or more steam and water drums 16, one or more rows of vertical tubes 24 divide the furnace below the tube bank into a number of combustion spaces each having its own firing means such as burners 60 and increase the ratio of radiantly heated generating surface to convectively heated surface. Walls of tubes 24a are provided along the furnace side walls and tubes 42, 44 may also line the front and rear walls. In the arrangement shown the walls 24, 24a are supplied from the drum through nipples 26, downcomers 30, nipples 32 and headers 34, the return circulation being through headers 36 and nipples 38 which connect into the drum at spaced points 40. The walls 42, 44 may be supplied through branched downcomers 46 and deliver steam and water through risers 50, 58. A modified construction which is described in Specification 371,244 and which provides water-tube walls adjacent a furnace dividing wall transverse to the water-tube bank is also referred to.
