Abstract

Water-tube boilers comprise an upper steam and water drum 10 located above front headers 11, nipples 14 connecting the drum and headers, rear headers 12 supported by the rear wall 19 of the furnace and their forward ends connected by nipples 15, which extend across the furnace outlet and may be staggered to the drum 10, and firing means 22 in the front wall of the setting for projecting a, flame into the furnace, the front and rear headers, which are connected by tubes 16 being each arranged in two rows in staggered relation. The tubes 16 comprise an upper and a lower bank between which a superheater is arranged having inlet and outlet headers 23, 24 and a co-extensive intermediate header 26 connected thereto by U-tubes 27. An air heater 30 or other form of heat exchanger is located at the outlet flue 29, with baffles 31 - - 34 preferably arranged to direct gases across the header tubes to an outlet 35. The water tubes 16 may be removed through handhole openings in the front walls of the headers 11. A firing aisle is provided between two marine boilers, tubes from either boiler being removed through the common aisle.
