[Class 123 (ii)] A two-drum water-tube boiler comprises a vertical bank of water tubes 14 connecting a lower and an upper drum 11, 13, a partition 21 defining the inner side wall of a laterally adjoining combustion chamber 20 the rear end of which communicates with the tube bank space, a row of radiant heated vertical tubes 23 carrying refractory material defining the outer side wall of the chamber 20 and connecting lower and upper headers 27, 32 which are respectively connected to the lower and upper drums by tube rows 28, 33, forming with refractory material the chamber floor and roof. Burners 36 in the front wall 15 of the chamber provide a horizontal longitudinal flow of heating gases through the chamber and a reverse flow through the tube space to an outlet 40. A bank of looped superheater tubes 43 connecting vertical headers 41, 42 is arranged across the rear of the boiler supported by an extension 39 of the partition 21, and a water tube screen of staggered vertical tubes 48 connecting lower and upper headers 46, 47, is located forwardly of the looped end portions of the superheater. A twin installation may be arranged in a ship's hull with a common central gas exit flue.
