Abstract
467,887. Water-tube steam boilers. SCHMIDT'SCHE HEISSDAMPF-GES. Nov. 10, 1936, No. 30651. Convention date, Dec. 4, 1935. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii)] In marine water-tube boilers having upper and lower drums 1, 2 connected by water-tubes enclosing the combustion chamber 3 into the upper part of which fuel is admitted, some tubes have parts forming part or all of the furnace floor and parts 22 forming a side wall exposed on one side to radiant heat and on the other to gases ascending a flue 26 among a lateral tube bank after passing between the floor tubes. A superheater 27 and feedwater heater 28 are arranged in the flue 26, a damper 29 controlling the flow of gases through a byepass 30. Another embodiment provides ascending flues formed by tube groups on both sides of the furnace the inner tube row of one group being bent to form the furnace crown, and tubes within the group being juxtaposed over a portion of their length to form a dividing wall directing some of the gases over the furnace crown before passing to the uptake.
