490,452. Forced - flow steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Dec. 18, 1936, No. 34785. Convention date, Dec. 18, 1935. [Class 123 (ii)] In a forced - flow boiler with a horizontal U-shaped heating passage and with parallel connected vaporizing tubes 206 lining the walls of a combustion chamber in one of the limbs of the passage, an air heater 282 is so arranged at the outlet end of the other limb that the gases flow through the heater horizontally, and the air flows through the heater towards the burner 279 at the end of the combustion chamber transversely of the flow of the hot gases. The vaporizing tubes form flat coils extending along the full length of the floor of the combustion chamber, and they are then bent to extend along the sides and back walls and across the rear of the chamber, and finally they form flat coils lining the roof of the chamber. The tubes pass through sliding gas-tight joints in a plate 231 over the chamber and are connected to a separator 232 arranged in the path of the gases between a superheater 242 and a feedwater heater 202.
