Abstract

441,818. Water-tube steam boilers; steam superheaters. BABOOOK & WILCOX, Ltd., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London.-(Assignees of Bailey, E. G. ; R.D.3, Easton, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.) July 8, 1935, No. 19508. Convention date, July 10, 1934. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii)] [See also Group XII] Superheating tubes 50 connected to upper and lower headers and arranged in the walls of a boiler above the combustion chamber 10 are heated by the radiant heat of the furnace gases and are screened from the radiant heat of the solids in the furnace by water tubes 16 extending across the path of the gases. The water tubes are covered with refractory material and are connected to the boiler drum through headers 20, 22 and connectors 21, 23. A convection-heat superheater 28 may be arranged above or below the radiant heat superheater. Boiler steam flows first through the superheater 28 then through flexible pipes 46, 62 to the upper headers 48, 58 of the radiant-heat superheater, and it is conducted from the lower headers 52, 64 to the outlet main 56. The screen tubes may be so arranged to form inclined passages directing a certain amount of radiation from the furnace on to the superheater wall-tubes.
