Abstract
396,342. Water-tube steam boilers ; heating feedwater. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London.-(Kerr, H. J. ; Westfield, New Jersey, U.S.A.) April 13, 1933, No. 11052. Convention date, April 13, 1932. [Classes 64 (i) and 123 (ii).] In a boiler having inclined tubes 13 connected to uptake and downtake headers 17, 16 which communicated through uptake and downtake tubes 18, 15 with an elevated steam and water drum 14, an economizer consisting of a number of superposed sections 26 .. 29 is arranged in the flue space bounded by the tubes 13, 15, 18, the feed being forced downwards through the sections from the inlet header 31 to the outlet header 34, which is connected to the boiler drum 14. A mixing header may be provided between the outlet of one section and the inlet to the next, and the heating surfaces of the sections may be so porportioned as to avoid steam generation before the mixing header. The ends of the inlet tubes of the mixing header may be restricted, and the header may be arranged above the level of the lower tubes of the non-steam section with which it communicates.
