Abstract
396,341. Water-tube steam boilers ; heating feedwater. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London.-(Assignees of Kerr, H. J. ; Westfield, New Jersey, U.S.A.) April 13, 1933, No. 11051. Convention date, April 13, 1932. [Classes 64 (i) and 123 (ii).] In a boiler having inclined tubes 13 connected to uptake and downtake headers 17, 16, which communicate through uptake and downtake tubes 18, 15 with an elevated steam and water drum 14, a steaming economizer consisting of superposed sections is arranged in the flue space bounded by the tubes 13, 15, 18. Water is forced downwardly from the inlet header 31 through the upper sections into the lower part of the bottom sections 26, 27, from the upper part of which steam and water flows through a pipe 37 to the boiler drum 14. A superheater 23 is arranged between the economizer and the boiler tubes. The economizer and superheater are supported by lugs 42 welded to the uptake and downtake tubes 15, 18. The sides of the flue space containing the economizer may be parallel instead of tapering as shown.
