451,637. Water-tube steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and SPARKS, C. H., Farringdon Street, London. Jan. 13, 1936, No. 1117. [Class 123 (iii)] A high head boiler has a bank of water-tubes 1 and a steam and water drum 2 located a substantial distance above the uppermost point of steam generation in the tubes, with the gas pass above the bank divided into two wholly vertical passes 8, 9, extending above the drum and controlled by dampers 13, 14, so that the gases may flow through both or one only of the passes. A partition 7 forming the passes is constituted by tubes 15 connected at their lower ends to the downtake headers 5 and at their upper ends directly to the space of the drum or to a header 16 connected by tubes 17 to the drum. Superheater sections 19, 20, with or without a reheater or reheaters, are disposed in pass 8 and economizer sections 22 ... 24 in pass 9. Air heaters may also be provided in the passes and induced draught fans beyond the dampers. Specification 410,041 is referred to.
