240,370. Babcock & Wilcox, Ltd., (Babcock & Wilcox Co.). March 19, 1925. Water-tube boilers.-A water-tube boiler has upper and lower banks of water-tubes 4<a>, 7<a>, and downstroke and uptake headers 5<a>, 6<a>, connected respectively by pipes 14 and return pipes 15, to a steam and water drum 13. A superheater A is disposed between the main bank of water-tubes and the return pipes. A secondary combustion chamber 12<a> between the water-tube banks is accessible through an opening 35 in a furnace wall. The lower bank is entirely exposed to the furnace gases. A baffle construction B<a> comprises a roof baffle 31 disposed above the upper row of water tubes of the lower bank and a baffle 32 vertically inclined forwardly from the front end of the baffle 31 and extending across the chamber 12<a> and the upper bank of water-tubes to a baffle 26<a> which is disposed between the upper bank of water-tubes and the superheater. A third baffle 28<a>, 27<a>, extends downwardly from the superheater to form a down pass at the opposite side of the baffle 32.
