Abstract

380,328. Water-tube steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London.-(Babcock & Wilcox Co. ; 85, Liberty Street, New York, U.S.A.) Jan. 8, 1932, No. 644. [Class 123 (ii).] A number of tubes forming separate water circulation circuits are connected to a single drum 10, each tube having downcomer and riser sections 12, 18 at the sides of the furnace gas pass and lower and upper sections 14, 20 extending across the gas pass. The bore of the downcomer sections is smaller than that of the other sections. The sections are connected together by welding. The downcomers and the bends 26 connecting them to the cross section 14 are protected by baffle walls 32, 34. The upper sections are formed with fins 22. A superheater 48 is arranged between the sections. Instead of the upper sections opening into the drum above the water level as shown, they may open below or partly below and partly above the water level.
