Abstract

276,110. Babcock & Wilcox, Ltd., and Davy, C. H. June 17, 1926. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; casings and walls.- In a boiler having a furnace with a closed top and an outlet for ash at the bottom, the sides of the furnace are formed by vertical tubes I, which are encased in brickwork and which constitute with upper and lower headers K, L the extreme side sections of the boiler, the other sections G being steeply inclined and arranged to form the rear wall of the furnace. The headers of all the sections are connected to upper and lower drums N, 0, by nipples M. The sections G may be divided into front and rear banks which are separately connected to the upper drum, and the bank nearer the furnace may be supplied with water preheated in the furnace tubes E', O<1>. A feed-heater R may be placed in the path of the gases beyond the downcomer tubes P, and a superheater may be placed between the sections G and the downcomer tubes or between the banks of the sections.
