Cooling.-In a water-tube boiler furnace, the two sides of the combustion chamber may be protected from the hot gases by screens of water tubes 5<1>, 5<11> connected to headers 39, 40. The tubes are combined in pairs into tubes 5 to secure wider spacing of the joints with the headers. In a modified construction, the water screens may extend upwards above the level of the superheater.
