Abstract

114,172. Rainey, F. E. Feb. 20, 1917. Water-tube boilers.-Water drums 8 arranged transversely above the grate, and steam drums 5, the water spaces of which are not in direct com. munication with one another, are so connected by tubes 13 extending across the width of the furnace and by downcomers 11 that the water flows through the groups of drums and tubes in series. The back and front water drums are connected by a pipe 18 fitted with a non-return valve 19. The flue spaces between the baffles 23 decrease in width towards the front of the boiler. In a double-ended boiler, groups of tubes are arranged at opposite inclinations The large drums shown may be replaced by small drums or sectional headers. Reference is made in the Provisional Specification to Specification 2428/96.
