Abstract
523,463. Water-tube steam boilers; steam superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., Dec. 30, 1938, No. 37882. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1937. [Classes 123 (ii) and 123 (iii)] In a boiler having a bank of tubes 17 connecting upper and lower horizontal drums 15, 16 and a lateral combustion chamber 33 with water-tube walls as described in Specification 433,834, the combustion gases flow from the rear of the chamber 33 to the tube bank 7 through a number of backward and forward passes 34, 35 one of which is fired by auxiliary burners 60. A superheater 55 is arranged on a wall of a pass before the fixed pass or on the wall 38 of the combustion chamber. The steam passes first through a convection-heated superheater 22 shielded by part of the boiler tubes and then through the superheater 55 in the pass 34 and finally through a superheater 50 in the rear wall of the combustion chamber. At starting up, the auxiliary burners 60 alone are used, and when the boiler is working under full load, the auxiliary burners are used to regulate the superheat.
