Abstract

496,488. Water - tube steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. May 26, 1937, No. 14630. Convention date, June 24, 1936. [Class 123 (ii)] Groups of water tubes connected to upper and lower drums 16, 17 and arranged at the side of a combustion chamber 21 are separated from the combustion chamber by a longitudinal water-cooled wall 19, the rear part 61 of which is outwardly inclined to the path of the furnace gases, which flow around the end of the wall into the tube space. The space is divided into three passes by transverse partitions 50, 51 and a longitudinal wall 54. The gases flow across the tubes 18c in the first pass 52, under the wall 54 and up the second pass 55, and then over the partition 51 and down the third pass 56 to the outlet 59. The straight covered portion of the inclined part 61 of the division wall decreases in height towards the rear, and furnace gases flow above and below it through the uncovered portions. U.S.A. Specification 1,999,984 is referred to.
