Abstract
631,528. Water-tube steam &c. boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Jan. 4, 1947, No. 324. Convention date, Jan. 4, 1946. [Class 123(ii)] In a steam &c. boiler comprising a pair of combustion chambers 10, 12, Fig. 2, which are separated by a wall 31 and have outlets 20 leading to a common convection pass locating a superheater and economizer, the wall 31 is defined by steam-generating tubes, which extend upwardly from water headers 32, 34 and are connected to a transverse steam and water drum 30 through upper headers 42, 45, and is provided with gas communication openings permitting pressure equalization between the two chambers 10, 12. As shown, Fig. 5, adjacent tubes or groups of tubes of the wall 31 are formed with short and long sections 132, 134 and 130, 98, upwardly divergent and convergent relatively to one another, and are connected together, preferably by welding, below and above the said sections. The lower ends of alternate tubes are welded to finned extensions 140 forming a hopper surface below the chamber 10, and the remaining tubes to similar extensions 142 below the chamber 12, and these extensions are tied together at their upper ends by tension member 160 and are supported at positions 162, 164 intermediate their ends by structures 167, 170. The side walls 240, 242 of the boiler are lined with tubes 244, 246 extending from lower headers 248, 250 respectively to upper headers 280, 282 and 260, 262 connected to said drum 30, the tubes of the front wall have extensions which lead direct to the drum 30 and line the furnace roof, and the rear wall tubes 224, also connected direct to the drum 30, are bent at 230 and 234 to provide screens at the bottom and top of the convection pass. The several lower water headers are in communication with the water space of the drum 30 through downcomers. Specification 631,529 is referred to.
