Abstract

173,837. Dornan, J., and Portham, R. S. Oct. 1, 1920. U-tube superheaters; dampers for controlling superheaters.-A superheater for a Babcock and Wilcox or like boiler is mounted in a space so partitioned off from the boiler tube space that the flow of gases through the superheating space is in parallel with the flow through the boiler tube space, and means are provided for controlling the flow through the superheating space independently. The superheating elements 8 connected to front headers are inserted between a side boiler wall and a vertical partition 7 shutting off the boiler tube space. Baffles are so fitted at the bottom and top of the superheating space as to cause the gases to flow over and along the elements. A damper 14 controls the admission of gases to the superheating space. A second damper may be fitted to control the outlet.
