Abstract

500,030. Water-tube steam boilers. FRASER & FRASER, Ltd., and ANGUS, A. R. Aug. 15, 1938, No. 23998. [Class 123 (ii)] A boiler has inclined water tubes 10, Fig. 1, connected to headers 13 wholly outside the combustion space and connected by flow and return circulation pipes 16, 15 with a steam drum 31 which closes the top of the combustion space, and one or more transverse baffles 61, 62 are provided to direct the gases through a number of passes across the tubes. A superheater 67 is arranged between banks of water tubes, and a feedwater or air heater 68 is arranged in the outlet flue 66. In a boiler intended for heating water or for generating steam, the gases may pass directly through a damper controlled opening 87, Fig. 4, in the rear wall of the furnace into an outlet 86 at the bottom of the rear flue 66. When the boiler is used as a steam generator, the opening 87 is closed and a damper 88 in the upper part of the flue 66 opened to compel the gases to flow across the water tubes. Both the dampers 87, 88 may be closed and the gases allowed to flow across the front part only of the tubes to an upper outlet 69. Specification 361,584 is referred to.
