Class 123 (ii) A steam boiler of the kind described in Specification 626,651 comprises a combustion chamber which is defined by a row of side tubes 26, extending from a lower water header 6 and connected to sloping roof tubes 24 of larger diameter, and an opposed bank of convection tubes 32 extending between inlet and outlet headers 34, 35 respectively, the upper ends of the roof tubes 24 and the outlet headers 35 being connected to an upper steam-and-water drum 2 by bent tubes 25, 39. The spaces between the tubes 26 are closed by fins 27, and the tubes of the inner row of the bank 32 are provided for the greater part of their length with closing fins 33. The front and rear walls of the combustion chamber are also lined with tubes 18, 22 extending respectively between inlet and outlet headers 12,17 and 15,21, the outlet headers 17, 21 being connected to the drum 2 by large diameter tubes 19, 23. Water is supplied to the lower headers from vertical headers 4 depending from the ends of the drum 2, the header 6 and main header 8 of the headers 34 through bent downcomers 7, 9, and the headers 12, 15 through lateral extensions 10, 14 of the headers 4 and downcomers 13, 16. A slightly modified construction of boiler is also described.
