Abstract

709,317. Water-tube steam boilers; superheaters. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Feb. 20, 1952 [Feb. 23, 1951], No. 4482/52. Class 123(2) In a steam boiler comprising a furnace chamber 1 lined with steam-generating tubes 2 and provided with a lateral gas outlet 10 at its upper end, a radiant superheater 11 in the form of upright tube panels is disposed at the side of the furnace chamber so as to extend transversely of the outlet 10 and adjacent a bank 6 of steam-generating tubes, the bank 6 also extending transversely of the said outlet and having tubes located downstream from the superheater 11 or/and between the panels of the latter. Preferably the upper end of the furnace chamber is reduced in depth by an arch which defines the bottom of a pass leading from the outlet 10 and housing a convection superheater section 8. Each superheater tube panel comprises front hair-pin tubes 14, extending between inlet and outlet headers 13, 16, and rear tubes 15 which lead from the header 16 and through the roof of the gas pass 10 to the outlet header of a superheater section 9 associated with the section 8, the header 13 being supplied with saturated steam from a drum 3 by tubes 12 passing to the rear of the said superheater section 8.
