Abstract

709,329. Waste-heat water-tube steam boilers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Sept. 12, 1952 [Sept. 15, 1951], No. 22983/52. Class 123(2) A steam boiler comprises a setting having tube-lined upright side walls 10, 10 and an inclined roof 13, a bottom with' ash pit 18 and dust hoppers 30, 37, a waste-heat gas inlet 15, and a damper-controlled gas outlet 21, said setting defining a gas-receiving chamber 14 and locating, in succession, a plurality of tube platens 57, 58, a superheater 32 and spaced banks 23, 24, 25 of steam-generating tubes extending between upper and lower drums 26, 27. As shown, the platens 57, 58 are disposed in vertical planes parallel to the side walls 10, the tubes of the platens extending between headers 61, 62, but with some of the tubes of the platens immediately adjacent the walls 10 extending between the headers 41, 42 of the tubes 10a lining said walls. Water is supplied to the lower headers of the setting wall tubes and platens from the lower drum 27 through downcomers such as 46, 47, 48, and to the header 54 of tubes 13a lining the setting roof 13 through downcomers 56. Tube cleaning openings 65, 67, 68, 69 are provided in the setting.
