Abstract
562,806. Centrifugal machines. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. (Babcock & Wilcox Co.). Jan. 12, 1943, No. 20141. Divided out of 562,793 under whicha Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 on July 21, 1943. [Class 23] A boiler drum 10 contains a number of centrifugal vapour and liquid separators A, B, the liquid being led to downcomers 32 and the steam through multiple plate separators 90, 98, to off-take tubes 96. Each separator comprises a whirl chamber 1 having a tangential inlet 44, a vapour outlet 70, and an annular liquid outlet 72 leading to a spout 84 which is approximately at right angles to the inlet 44, and contains helical vanes 76. The steam generator comprises a drum 10, Fig. 5, connected to a water heater 12 by steam generating tubes, some of which define walls of a combustion chamber 20 fired by a burner 22. The furnace gases pass to a second furnace chamber 24, over successive screens 28 and 31 to superheater, economiser, and air heater. The rows of separators have their inlets mounted on fixed upright plates connected by a curved bottom plate between which and the drum shell, an inlet chamber is formed. The outlet spouts 84 lead the liquid towards the nearest downcomer. Specifications 526,825 [Group XIII], 530,325, 547,413 and 547,414 are referred to.
